Meet the kids of the North Carolina Knitting Knights, a group of yarn-wielding warriors led by none other than Sir Wooly Wobblebottom, the coolest imaginary character in all the land. Sir Wooly, a sassy sheep with an unruly fleece and a pair of knitting needles behind his fluffy ears, teaches the kids to knit like true knights. Together, they create magical garments that make you giggle uncontrollably or jump as high as a kangaroo. While some kids knit colorful scarves that can stretch up to the Blue Ridge Mountains, others weave hats that could double up as UFOs! Once, a little girl even knitted a pair of socks that could make you dance like a disco star, while another boy crafted a sweater that could speak in five different animal languages. Camp Med-o-lark is an all genders arts sleep away camp in Washington, Maine for children ages 7–16, set on the shores of a pristine lake. Med-o-lark offers a fully elective program, allowing campers to design their own schedules from a wide range of activities including performing arts, fine arts, sports, circus, waterfront, and more. Each summer, Med-o-larkers come together to build a kind, creative community where everyone has the opportunity to discover, grow, create, learn, and shine. With a strong emphasis on the arts, Med-o-lark offers one of the most extensive programs in dance, fine arts, handcrafts, and theater of any camp in New England.

It is here that they can create, play and even bake a teatime treat for the whole group to enjoy. Weather permitting, we’ll work outdoors, as kids and the outdoors naturally go hand in hand. Every camp day follows a set rhythm. After arriving, the kids have some time to settle in during free play, before the structured activity begins. During the morning art, sewing or creating workshop, I plan an activity while still listening to the children’s own ideas. This is a fantastic way to encourage their imagination and spark their creativity. At Winking Moon Art Camp, it’s all about having fun.
