The Naples Roller Hockey League is a non-profit, board run organization committed to teaching the fundamentals of the roller hockey sport and fostering the growth of each individual player. Players aged 5-16 years old are taught the fundamentals of skating, defensive and offensive play, goalie play, and the importance of good sportsmanship. Through our organization, players are able to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in roller hockey competitions at any level. The Friends of Rookery Bay is a nonprofit organization that fundraises and works to build up the community surrounding the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Through their efforts, the Friends of Rookery Bay helps to preserve this vital piece of Southwest Florida’s coastal environment for generations to come. The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is a unique partnership between the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, and Florida International University. Located in Collier County, this 110,000 acre reserve is responsible for managing the wildlife and habitat in the area, encompassing 40 percent of the county’s coastline. The Reserve focuses on research, education, and conservation, while the Friends of Rookery Bay works to build the local community and raise funds to support the Reserve’s efforts. In 1999, Lane Beatty, a physical educator, had a vision to create a new type of summer camp for working parents in Naples, Florida. The Sports CLUB concept was a revolutionary idea that allowed children to choose from a variety of activities throughout the day, based on 45-minute rotations. Lane’s concept was based on the type of sports and games he had played growing up in a small town in Northern Michigan. After a successful summer camp, parents asked to have the same choices during the after-school program as well. Thus, the non-profit organization Sports Camp, Inc. was formed and the after-school Sports CLUB program began. Sports CLUB is dedicated to helping children achieve a balanced lifestyle that includes equal emphasis on academics, the arts and athletics. The program provides students with homework help, arts and crafts, and a variety of physical activities between 2:45-6:30 p.m. Today, the program has grown significantly and is making a positive impact on over 1000 students in Collier County.
