In 1979, a group of committed Darien citizens founded the Darien Nature Center with the mission of teaching respect for and understanding of the environment. The founding Board of Directors was composed of individuals active in local organizations such as the Audubon Society, the Conservation Commission, the Darien Community Association, and Darien Public Schools. To start, the Nature Center held summer programs in Darien public schools and as the interest in the cause grew, the search for a permanent home began. Today, the Darien Nature Center has become a place to learn about and appreciate the beauty of nature, while connecting with the local community. As a hub for environmental action and stewardship, the Nature Center offers a variety of educational programs and hands-on experiences for all ages. Through these activities, the center strives to foster a love of nature and encourages people to take action to protect and preserve the environment.

The Darien YMCA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. We strive to create an environment of connectedness and belonging, which in turn grows our families and communities. Through our programs, services, and relationships we work to create a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The Darien YMCA has been part of our community for over 60 years and we’re committed to continuing our legacy of providing resources and encouraging healthy, productive lifestyles for generations to come. We believe that by fostering meaningful relationships, we can build a better world for our families and future generations.

Since 1973, Darien Ice House has been an important part of the Darien, Connecticut community. Ownership of the rink has changed hands over the years, and is currently owned by the Romano family of Stamford and Michael Pavia, the former mayor of Stamford. The rink has a long history of hosting major events, including Olympic figure skating exhibitions, elite youth hockey programs and NHL player exhibitions, as well as local youth and high school programs. Today, the rink is home to the Darien Blue Wave boys and girls high school hockey teams, as well as the New Canaan Rams boys and girls high school teams. Darien Ice House also partners with the New Canaan Winter Club to offer boys and girls travel hockey programs, plus the Ice Cats girls travel hockey program. The Darien Skating School provides in-house learn-to-skate classes for all ages, while Blueline Sports, located inside the rink, offers major brands of hockey and lacrosse equipment and sharpening services. With its long-standing commitment to the community, Darien Ice House has become a beloved pillar of the Connecticut community.

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is part of a larger network of associations that span the nation. These associations are divided by regions, which allows us to combine our resources and provide additional services to our clients in the Darien and Norwalk communities. By pooling our resources, we can also combine our voices for change at the local and national levels. At the YWCA Darien/Norwalk, we are committed to providing support and advocacy-focused programs, events, and resources to our local community. We are passionate about empowering women and girls and advocating for their rights. Our organization is devoted to creating a better future for all women and girls.

The Darien Arts Center is a vibrant non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing the means of artistic expression to members of the community of all ages. From dance and music to visual arts and theatre, the DAC offers a variety of educational programs and special events to help foster creativity and inspire imagination. Whether it’s taking a dance class or attending a live theatre performance by DAC Stage, there is something for everyone at the Darien Arts Center. The Darien Arts Center is a great resource for families looking to get involved in the arts. With educational programs in Dance, Visual Arts, Music & Theatre, as well as special events and live theatre performances, the DAC is a great place for children and adults of all ages to explore their creative side. Whether it be a dance class, music lesson, or a theatre performance, the DAC has a variety of activities to suit everyone’s interests. The Darien Arts Center is a wonderful organization that is devoted to promoting and nurturing the artistic interests of the community. This is especially effective with younger students who may be intimidated by the classroom setting or who have highly specific interests in mind. For those who have a beloved pet at home, I can create a unique painting to commemorate them. I also offer fantasy art courses for those interested in exploring their own creative boundaries. My fantasy art classes are great for those who want to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of art while also developing their own imaginative skills. Each student is encouraged to explore their own creative expression at their own pace.

For over four decades, the Darien Junior Sailing Team (DJST) has been giving local children the opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport of sailing. Founded in 1972 at Weed Beach, the non-profit organization is supported by the town of Darien, but is entirely self-funded and organized by parent volunteers. Every year, the program runs for two three-week sessions, open to children between the ages of 8 and 14 in the Darien area. Most of the participants come in with minimal, if any, prior sailing experience. The DJST has been introducing Darien's young people and their families to the joys of sailing for almost half a century. Founded in 1972 at Weed Beach, the program is a non-profit, supported but not affiliated with the town of Darien. The city provides the use of Weed Beach, and the program is entirely self-funded and organized by parent volunteers. It runs for two three-week sessions and is open to children aged 8-14, many of whom have no background in sailing. Since its inception, the Darien Junior Sailing Team has been providing Darien's young people and their families with an introduction to the sport of sailing. The DCA is a privately-funded nonprofit that does not receive any financial support from the Town of Darien. Since 1923 we’ve been making our community a nicer place to live, by providing people of all ages a place to gather, give and learn. At the DCA, we enrich our community in a welcoming, historic setting for lifelong learning, philanthropy, and enjoyment.
