In the bustling heart of Michigan, a state brimming with unspoiled nature, crystal blue lakes, and cities humming with energy, a group of kids embarked on a melodious journey that shook the earth—quite literally! They were the Michigan Maestros, a squad of songwriting whizz-kids, who dared to create tunes as diverse as their beloved Great Lake State. Imagine a team of superheroes, each with a unique power, except instead of flying or invisibility, their powers were in rhythm, rhyme, and a magical sense of melody. One kid could hear a bird's early morning chirp and turn it into the most heavenly symphony. Another could whistle a tune that made the squirrels dance. Yet another could make a drum beat from the echo of a bouncing basketball. Their leader was Lyric Lenny, a fourth-grader with a wild mop of red hair and glasses as thick as Detroit’s famous deep-dish pizza. Lenny had the unique gift of weaving words into enchanting verses, just as Michigan weavers spun thread into colorful tapestry. His lyrics were so powerful they could make the Mackinac Bridge wobble or cause Lake Superior to laugh with joy! With their diverse powers, these youngsters spun songs as innovative as the automobiles from Motor City, as serene as the sand dunes of Sleeping Bear, and as delicious as a cherry pie from Traverse City. They wrote about Yooper culture, Detroit's resilience, and the charm of quaint coastal towns. Their music was Michigan, and they were its proudest symphony. DEBUT Creative Center & Theater-Studio is a dual-language (English–Russian) program where kids explore creativity, confidence, and self-expression. From theater and dance to fencing and stage performance, children can try new activities and discover their unique talents. Small class sizes let instructors give each child personalized attention, helping them feel comfortable, supported, and confident as they learn. Kids build artistic skills while also developing social confidence, teamwork, and poise on stage and in everyday life. Our programs celebrate each child’s individuality, combining fun, hands-on experiences with a focus on personal growth—all while keeping Russian language and culture an important part of the curriculum.
Since 1928, Interlochen has been an incredible resource for the arts. Nestled in northwest Michigan, this beautiful campus is surrounded by two pristine lakes and quiet pines, creating a truly special and intangible atmosphere. It is a place where generations of students, from grades 3-12, and adults of all ages, come to experience and develop their creative talents in the various arts disciplines. The Interlochen Center for the Arts is the umbrella organization for the six unique programs, each of which has been designed to foster the appreciation of the arts within the community. These programs include Interlochen Arts Camp, Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen Online, Interlochen Public Radio, Interlochen Presents, and Interlochen College of Creative Arts.
