It's a sight that leaves the crowd laughing their hats off, as a burst of apple juice or a splash of watermelon flies through the air after his powerful swing! The Mini Red Sox play under the watchful eyes of Sox, a mischievous, magical squirrel. Sox, who wears a tiny Red Sox cap, has a knack for making the most boring practice drills hilariously entertaining. Just when you think you've seen it all, Sox might just replace a baseball with an acorn or perform a nutty cha-cha on the pitcher's mound! At UKSD, our goal is to develop young leaders who are driven to make an impact, both locally and globally. Through our program, we work to foster a sense of community in the teens we serve. We use sports as a tool for connecting with the community, teaching valuable skills, and increasing self-awareness and appreciation for diversity. Our program is also focused on educating our participants on social issues that are impacting young people across the world. We align our topics of education with the United Nations' sustainable development goals, and use these issues to guide our community service projects. Our mission is to develop leadership skills in young people, so they can make a difference and become the change they want to see in the world.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands is focused on helping children in under-resourced families reach their full potential. We understand that providing one-on-one relationships with caring adult mentors is a key factor in helping children thrive. With our three innovative program models, we are working to make sure that more children have access to these relationships and the support they need. We believe that giving children in under-resourced families the opportunity to build strong relationships with their mentors can foster their development and open up a world of possibilities. With our help, these children are better equipped to navigate their futures and become productive members of their communities.
