Down in the Sunshine State of Florida, where oranges grow as big as your head and alligators are considered neighborhood pets, there was a group of amazing kids with green thumbs who loved nothing more than to frolic in the soil. These were not your typical children, oh no, they were the members of the Florida Fantastical Gardening Squad. They could grow a beanstalk faster than you can say 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'! Their leader was a cool imaginary character named Señor Greenbeard, an old pirate with a beard made of ferns and eyebrows like Spanish moss. His laugh was as loud as a crowing rooster, and his eyes twinkled like the morning dew on the leaves. Greenbeard had sailed all seven seas but found his true calling in the sunny lands of Florida, teaching kids the magic of gardening. Every morning, Greenbeard and his team of dirt divas would gather in their gigantic garden, surrounded by vine-covered trellises and towering sunflower sentinels. They would then plunge their hands into the rich Florida soil, wriggling their fingers as if playing a piano concerto. Tomatoes would blush, cucumbers would curtsy, and the corn would grow so tall it tickled the clouds! Whatever they planted grew bigger, better, and funnier. They had carrots the color of rainbows, strawberries shaped like stars, and watermelons that would burst into a shower of confetti when ripe. It was the funniest garden anyone had ever seen, and the giggles of the gardener kids echoed across Florida. They weren’t just growing plants; they were growing laughter, proving that with a little imagination, even the most ordinary activity could turn into an extraordinary adventure.

For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.

As parents, it’s important to make sure our children have meaningful outdoor experiences. With the rise of digital screens, it’s more important than ever that kids get to explore the outdoors. Outdoor play offers hands-on lessons and valuable social interactions that a screen can’t replicate. Finding ways to make outdoor time enjoyable for the whole family can be a challenge. It’s key to plan ahead and have ideas ready for when the time comes. Take the initiative to explore the outdoors with your children and make every moment count. To ensure your child is getting the most out of their outdoor play, it’s helpful to focus on activities that foster their creativity and social interactions. Setting up a scavenger hunt, going on a nature walk, or playing a game of tag are all great ways to engage your child in outdoor activities. It’s up to us as parents to ensure our children are getting the outdoor playtime they need to thrive in this dynamic world. Making sure our kids are having enriching and meaningful experiences outside is an important part of parenting. With a little creativity and planning, you can ensure your family is making the most of their outdoor time.
