Their leader, a cool dude named 'Captain Birdie', is a twelve-year-old whiz kid who can putt a ball through a loop-de-loop, over a grinning crocodile, and into a hole with one eye closed, standing on one foot, and eating a popsicle all at the same time. His neon green hat, always worn backward, is his lucky charm and he's as famous for his funny jokes as he is for his incredible golfing skills. This motley crew of mini golfers, with their brightly colored golf balls, laughter ringing louder than seagull squawks, and determination as unshakeable as a Florida orange tree, are the heart and soul of Florida's mini golf scene. Adventure awaits at every corner, every course a new tale waiting to unfold. Wekiva Golf Club first opened its doors in 1972 and is now one of the most established courses in Central Florida. It has become popular due to its excellent design, course conditions, and its desirable location within a populated residential community. On September 29th, 2012 Wekiva re-opened their newly constructed greens with Champions Bermuda, a smooth and quick putting grass. This semi-private, 18-hole course is 6,850 yards and a par 72. It features well-bunkered fairways, rolling greens, and strategic placement of over 80 bunkers. Water comes into play on three of the holes, making it a challenging course for all levels of golfers. With its straight-forward layout, beautiful oaks, mature pines, and palms, Wekiva Golf Club makes for a memorable experience.
The Little Linksters Golf Academy was founded by PGA Professional Brendon Elliott in 2008 as a backyard training facility. It has since grown to include multiple locations across Central Florida. The first golf course location was Winter Park Golf Course in Winter Park, FL, where the academy remained until 2011 when Elliott transitioned to teaching full time. Little Linksters then found roots at Metrowest Golf Club in Orlando, FL, and in 2013, moved to Wekiva Golf Club in Longwood, FL. Elliott's new position at the Golf Academy of America allowed students to work with the Little Linksters staff and learn how to teach the age group of 3-8-year old’s, while programming at Wekiva came online in September of 2013.
