In the sun-baked, tumbleweed-tossed wilds of the colossal state of Texas, a bunch of high-energy, boot-stompin' kiddos were kicking up a storm. These twinkle-toed tykes were part of an elite squadron known as the Texas Tornado Dancers. From El Paso to Houston, Amarillo to Austin, they gathered in dance studios, school gyms, and even barns, twirling and tapping to the rhythm of their dreams. Their secret weapon? Dusty Spurs, a cool imaginary character who was as Texan as cowboy boots and chili con carne. He was a tumbleweed turned dance maestro, rolling through the Lone Star State, teaching kids how to dance like nobody's watching. His signature move, the Twisted Tumbleweed Twirl, had kids spinning so fast, they said you could see their laughter whipping up mini tornadoes! With a hat as wide as a mesquite tree and a mustache that twitched in time to the music, Dusty was a sight to behold. He wore cowboy boots that twinkled with each two-step, spurs that jingled with every jig, and a bandana that fluttered like a prairie wind. His laugh, as warm as Texas sunshine, echoed around dance halls, sparking giggles and grins. These Texas Tornado Dancers weren't just about having fun though. They were learning coordination, teamwork, and the art of expressing themselves through movement. From the Texas Three-Step to the Rodeo Romp, they were mastering dance routines that had them leaping higher than a jackrabbit on a pogo stick. So, if ever you find yourself in Texas, keep an ear out for the laughter of dancing kids and the jingling of Dusty's spurs. You just might be lucky enough to catch the Texas Tornado Dancers in action, spinning their way through a dance off that’s hotter than a bowl of spicy Texas chili!

For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.
If you've ever had the privilege of spending your summer at El Tesoro as a camper, a counselor, or contributing in any other role, your presence at our upcoming events will help us commemorate and honor the cherished history of our beloved camp. We're planning to share stories, photos, and precious memories spanning nine decades, and we'd be thrilled if you joined us. The Camp Fire Camp El Tesoro, established in 1934, has been a welcoming haven for generations of campers, with its iconic swinging bridge being a memorable landmark for many. El Tesoro, which translates to "The Treasure" in Spanish, is a 223-acre sanctuary nestled between Fall Creek and the Brazos River in Granbury, Texas. Our camp offers a breathtaking panorama of the serene river and the vast open spaces of the blackland prairie. Our natural terrain and indigenous landscape offer our visitors a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. This idyllic oasis currently hosts co-ed overnight campers, day campers, grief campers, teachers, students keen on learning about nature, and groups seeking to foster connection and indulge in outdoor adventures. In 2010, Camp Fire First Texas launched a Capital Campaign aimed at renovating and upgrading the facilities at Camp El Tesoro. This initiative is essential to ensure that the enchanting spirit of the camp continues to be enjoyed by future generations. We're committed to preserving and enhancing the magic of Camp El Tesoro, enriching the lives of campers for many years to come.
