In the bustling, twinkling state of New York, where skyscrapers touch the clouds and pizzas are bigger than a hula hoop, lives a unique group of kids. They are not ordinary by any stretch of the Big Apple. They are the Sewin’ Scallywags of the Empire State! These kiddos are stitch wizards, needle ninjas; they are the Spartans of the Sewing World! With their thimbles always at the ready, thread never tangled, they take on every textile that dares to cross their paths. Leading this daring bunch is Betty the Bobbin Bandit, a ten-year-old with pigtails longer than the Brooklyn Bridge and a heart as big as Central Park. With her magical sewing needle, borrowed straight from the mischievous elves of Times Square, she stitches faster than a New York minute. Her right-hand man is Sam the Seam Ripper, a freckle-faced boy with the heart of a lion and the speed of a yellow taxi in rush hour. Now, do not mistake them for quiet, old grannies in a knitting circle. Oh no, my friend! These kids are as wild and lively as a New York City subway during a Yankee's game. They transform dull, drab fabric into whimsical wonders, creating anything from superhero capes for their action figures to dresses for their dolls that are fancier than a Fifth Avenue boutique. The Sewin’ Scallywags are proof that in the city that never sleeps, you can find the unexpected around every corner, even kids who find joy in a sewing needle and thread. No matter what, they always have a stitchin' good time!

For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.

At Camp Tawonga, we believe in teaching reverence for the earth and its systems while also fostering an awareness of the social systems to which we all belong. Our campers learn how to make a difference both as individuals and as part of a team. They gain an understanding of our local eco-systems, food system, outdoor survival skills, and conflict resolution. As they learn, their self-confidence and appreciation for the interconnectedness of all of creation grows. In addition, Camp Tawonga is a multi-generational Jewish community. We encourage our campers to develop leadership skills through caring for the animals, farm, and communal spaces. We also recognize the value of mentorship and the wisdom that comes with every age.

Parents Magazine is proud to announce the completion of Passport NYC's five-year run. This special program, which helped teens entering 9th through 12th grades explore their passions through one of five specialty programs, was a truly unique and life-changing experience. From Fashion to the Music Industry, participating teens had the opportunity to explore their interests, build community, and earn up to 30 hours of Community Service Credit while living in a supervised environment at the 92Y Residence. The legacy of Passport NYC will live on, as teens who experienced the program will carry with them the memories, skills, and values they learned over the course of their time there. As the program has been put on hold, we are hopeful that Passport NYC will return in the future, so that more teens will have the opportunity to take part in this amazing summer experience.
