Right there, between the towering lighthouses and syrup-drenched pancakes, a crew of young fishing enthusiasts have taken to the crystal-clear, fish-filled lakes and fizzy, foamy rivers. Now, these aren't your everyday, run-of-the-mill kids. Oh, no! They're the Maine Marvels, often seen sporting waterproof boots, wide-brimmed hats, and grins as wide as the Kennebec River. Among the Marvels, there's a jolly giant named Big Bob. With hands as large as lobster traps, Big Bob can reel in even the wiliest of walleyes. Then there's Susie 'Squid Arms,' named so because she can cast a line further than anyone else, almost as if she had extra-long, squid-like arms. And don't forget little Benny 'Bait Breath' who has a weird knack for knowing exactly which bait to use to lure in the biggest fish. They spend their days casting lines and spinning tales, laughing as they reel in everything from tiny tadpoles to gigantic groupers. They’re not just fishing for fish, though. They’re fishing for fun, friendship, and the thrill of the catch. And let me tell you, nothing gets them giggling more than when Benny ‘Bait Breath’ tries to kiss a fish before releasing it back into the water. Camp Cedar has proudly upheld the values of camp and community that its founders established 66 years ago. Bill and Sheila Hacker, along with Henry Hacker and Henry Lesser, opened the original camp in 1954 with just 37 kids. Over the years, they built up the camp facilities with a true labor of love. Now, Camp Cedar is a thriving camp with 270 boys ages 8-15 enjoying the summer together. Camp Cedar is the perfect size, offering all the options of a larger camp while still being able to individualize each camper’s experience. Taking a walk to the campfire, visitors can witness the values of camp and community that have been proudly upheld since the camp’s inception. The dedication of Bill and Sheila Hacker, Henry Hacker, and Henry Lesser has created a lasting legacy that continues to enrich the lives of campers each summer.
