Once upon a time, in the enchanting state of Massachusetts, nestled between the rolling Atlantic waves and the whispering forests, a tribe of extraordinary children unlike any other lived. This wasn't a tribe of usual kids who played video games or collected baseball cards. No, these were the Word-Warriors of Massachusetts, brave knights of the written word, dedicating their time to a special kind of magic - writing!

And who was their leader, you ask? Sir Scribblelot, a cool imaginary character with hair as messy as a bird's nest and glasses as thick as Boston clam chowder. His weapon of choice? An enchanted pen named Inky, which could transform any thought into a beautiful sentence.

Every day, these Word-Warriors would gather after school, armed with their pens and notebooks, tackling adventures in grammar and embarking on quests in vocabulary. Whether it was essays on their favorite ice cream flavors, or tales of brave lobsters battling the wicked Seagull King, each story was a new journey full of laughs and learning.

Their stories made dragons roar with laughter and fairies chuckle. Even the old statue in the town square was once caught smiling at their tales! These youthful Word-Warriors were not just writers; they were the jesters of imagination, the wizards of words, and the ultimate champions of chuckles in Massachusetts.

In the world of the Word-Warriors, every day was a new adventure, and each Word-Warrior was a hero. From Boston to Springfield, they filled the state of Massachusetts with laughter, proving that when it comes to fun and creativity, the pen is mightier than the sword!

Nestled in 178 acres of lush woodland is a serene escape from the city, a place fondly known as Camp Swamp. This overnight Christian camp, located just two hours east of bustling Atlanta, has been serving as a peaceful retreat since 1992. We like to think of it as our own "little slice of heaven," offering a respite from the daily hustle and bustle, and inviting people to reconnect with nature and their spirituality.

Our primary offering is a week-long summer camp, but we've expanded over the years to include more than just summer fun. As part of our mission to support families and churches, we now also host three family camps throughout the year, as well as four parent/child retreats. These events offer a chance for families to bond, parents to connect with their children, and individuals to grow in their faith.

Moreover, our facilities are not exclusive to our organized events. Camp Swamp also offers rentals to schools, churches, universities, sports teams, and even business groups. Harriett Merriam, daughter of Charles Merriam, the man behind Merriam-Webster Dictionaries, founded Springfield Day Nursery in 1883. This was in response to a desperate need for child care among Springfield’s hardworking families. Now known as Square One, the organization provides tailored education and support services for every child and family. Evergreen Center was founded in 1982 by Dr. Robert F. Littleton, Jr., with the goal of providing a supportive learning and living environment for children and adolescents with autism and severe developmental disabilities. The center utilizes Applied Behavior Analysis as the foundation for its instructional technologies, with the aim of developing communication, basic academic, self-care, and social interaction skills. These fundamental abilities are essential for students to transition to less restrictive settings and lead a high quality life. Through the implementation of evidence-based practices, the Evergreen Center strives to ensure that all students reach their maximum potential.

At Criterion Child Enrichment, we understand the importance of a strong start for young children and their families. That’s why we specialize in providing developmentally appropriate programs and services that support early development and education. In 1986, the NBCCC became the Child Care of the Berkshires (CCB).  For the next 30 years, CCB worked diligently to provide quality child care and early education programs, support for family child care providers, and referrals to families in need. In 2017, CCB moved to its current location, located in a beautiful, renovated building in downtown North Adams. This move allowed CCB to expand the services it provides to families, providers, and the community.

For over 50 years, the Northern Berkshire Child Care Committee and Child Care of the Berkshires have been serving the families of Northern Berkshire County. Founded in 1969 by a group of committed women, NBCCC was born out of the need for daycare in the area. They temporarily took up residence in a church on Monument Square before eventually relocating to the Haskins Elementary School.

During these early years, they managed to build a network of family child care providers, funded through donations, the Northern Berkshire United Way, and a contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 1986, the NBCCC rebranded as the Child Care of the Berkshires (CCB).

For the last three decades, CCB has worked tirelessly to provide quality child care and early education programs, in addition to support for family child care providers and referrals for those in need. In 2017, CCB moved to its current location in North Adams. This move enabled CCB to increase their services to families, providers, and the surrounding community.

For the last 50 years, the Northern Berkshire Child Care Committee and Child Care of the Berkshires have been an integral part of the Northern Berkshire County community. Through their dedication and commitment to providing quality child care and early education programs, they have been able to make a positive impact on countless families in the area.

The teachers have been certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, and are committed to providing the highest quality of care and education for the children. Cynthia Price, a licensed daycare provider for more than 35 years, is also a Registered Medical Assistant. She offers a safe and nurturing atmosphere for children, while providing fun and educational activities, such as crafts, music, science experiments, and much more. Cynthia believes that learning should be enjoyable and makes sure that each day is filled with exciting activities for her students. Her daycare is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30am to 5:00pm and she accepts children from 15 months old to kindergarten. In addition to providing meals and snacks, Cynthia continues to expand her knowledge by attending classes and training sessions to provide the best care possible for each child.
