In the sun-drenched, alligator-infested, orange-scented state of Florida, a unique species of kids can be found lacing up their gloves, flexing their tiny muscles, and stepping into the squared circle. These are the pint-sized pugilists of the Sunshine State, a determined bunch of youngsters with an unusual passion for boxing. Imagine your average Florida kid. Now, inflate their biceps, stuff their socks with courage, and coat them with a thick layer of determination. What have you got? Well, meet Flamingo Fred, our imaginary character. Fred's as tall as a palm tree, as fast as a panther, and as strong as a hurricane. Though he's not really a flamingo, he's got flamingo legs - long and skinny, yet surprisingly sturdy. And he's not really a Fred either. He's more of a Federico, but Fred is just easier to fit on his boxing trunks. Flamingo Fred and his squad of mini-mighty Floridian fighters are a sight to behold. They train in the sweltering heat, amid the buzzing of mosquitoes and the distant sound of waves crashing on the coastline. Their boxing gloves are as colorful as a Floridian sunset, their spirits as high as a space shuttle launch from Cape Canaveral. But don't let their small size fool you. These little warriors can punch like a professional wrestler and dodge like a dolphin. They're as funny as a stand-up comedian and as brave as a lion. They giggle, they sweat, they stumble, but they never quit. These are the boxing kids of Florida, and they've got more fight in them than a pack of alligators in a wrestling match with a herd of flamingos. So, next time you're in Florida, don't forget to cheer for our hero, Flamingo Fred, and his band of boxing buddies.
