Meet Bobby 'Backstroke' Baloo, the leader of the Super Splashers. He's got a belly laugh that could shake an elephant and more freckles than there are pebbles on Gulf Shores Beach. He's also got an uncanny knack for backstroke swimming, hence his nickname. With Bobby leading the Splashers, afternoons in Alabama are anything but dull. Whether it's racing down the Tennessee River or chasing catfish in Lake Martin, these kids are always on a wet and wild adventure. They can swim like dolphins, dive like otters, and splash like walruses in a water park. But the best part about these kids isn't their swimming skills or their cool aquatic nicknames. It's their heart. Despite their fishy antics, they always remember to help each other out, showing the true spirit of Alabama – being there for your teammates, no matter what. Nestled in 178 acres of lush woodland is a serene escape from the city, a place fondly known as Camp Swamp. This overnight Christian camp, located just two hours east of bustling Atlanta, has been serving as a peaceful retreat since 1992. We like to think of it as our own "little slice of heaven," offering a respite from the daily hustle and bustle, and inviting people to reconnect with nature and their spirituality. Our primary offering is a week-long summer camp, but we've expanded over the years to include more than just summer fun. As part of our mission to support families and churches, we now also host three family camps throughout the year, as well as four parent/child retreats. These events offer a chance for families to bond, parents to connect with their children, and individuals to grow in their faith. Moreover, our facilities are not exclusive to our organized events. Camp Swamp also offers rentals to schools, churches, universities, sports teams, and even business groups. Whether you're planning a camp, a retreat, or a team-building excursion, our serene setting and well-equipped facilities provide the ideal backdrop for an unforgettable experience.
Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly began as a dream in the 1940s, but in 1951, the first campers got the chance to experience the beauty of Blue Lake. Instead of modern cabins, they had to make do with tents and a campfire for their meals. Fast-forward to today, and Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly has grown into a bustling destination for campers of all ages. Three modern camps, Pinewood, Dogwood, and Oakwood, provide a total of 525 beds for overnight guests. The Assembly also serves as a retreat center for church and youth groups, and can accommodate special needs guests.
