Confidence Building Events

Trusting in one's abilities is essential in building confidence and overcoming fear. Many of our camp activities help campers believe in themselves. Here are a few that standout. Confidence Course Campers must negotiate a series of obstacles which are designed to be both physically and pschologically challenging. Ziplining Ziplining requires campers to leap off a 30-foot tower so they can speed down a 100-yard steel cable. Rappelling Rappelling requires campers to overcome their fear of heights and descend down a 30-foot wall. Rock Climbing Utilize your skills to climb the 30-foot tall rock wall and then rappel down. High Ropes Challenge Course In the High Challenge, campers test their balance and stretch their comfort level with heights. Safety is paramount, and campers are always on a safety line when aloft. Our High Ropes courses are run by trained and certified rope course instructors.

Leadership and Team Skills Events

Team skills and leadership development is stressed in all aspects of our summer camp program. The following events target these skills as campers must work together to complete an obstacle. Low Challenge Course The Low Challenge requires campers to work as a team and problem solve. To supplement the low ropes course, a series of ground elements are also used that are all team oriented. These include the Tank Walk, A-Frame Shuffle, Landing Pads, Islands and All Aboard. Leadership Reaction Course The Leadership Reaction Course is a great tool for helping young men to understand the concept of developing a plan to solve a problem and working together as a team.

Rough-Tough Marine Stuff

Complete the same obstacles and challenges that Marines face in their training. They help to develop strength, endurance, flexibility and maybe a little swagger. Circuit Course A series of timed exercises designed to improve strength and endurance. Marksmanship Learn the safe and proper techniques of rifle marksmanship. Obstacle Course All summer campers run the obstacle course several times during their stay. The course is a full-sized Marine Corps regulation obstacle course. The obstacle course challenges the campers’ upper body strength, as well as their problem-solving abilities. It proves that brute strength is not enough to quickly negotiate challenges, and those campers that work on technique are rewarded with a course that is suddenly easier to run. Mud Course The summer camp mud course is a camper’s opportunity to deviate from the Marine standards of cleanliness and order and get as dirty as possible. The event features a series of obstacles run through a mud-filled course. It’s a fun yet challenging way to escape the South Texas heat! --Don't worry, the course ends at our outdoor shower! Pugil Sticks One-on-one challenges using a helmet, football pads and padded pole. Combat Fitness Test See how you measure up to the Marine Corps' combat fitness standards.

Sports

Participate in sports with other campers your. Play a favorite sport or learn something new. Teamwork skills, communication skills, self-esteem all benefit from healthy competitive sports. Paintball Campers compete in an exercise of strategy, teamwork and leadership skills. Canoeing Campers head over to the local Boy Scout camp to enjoy an afternoon of canoeing, archery and swimming. Flag Football Healthy team competition enhances co-operation skills and promotes camaraderie. Weightlifting Campers are taught the proper use of weights and lifting techniques. Swimming Escape the summer heat at MMA's pool.
