About RI Jr. Blues \/ WJHA Wave

When Frank Crawley first took the helm as head coach of Warwick Vets in the fall of 1959, he was determined to build interest in ice hockey in the local community. He could not have imagined the impact that his efforts would have, as today Warwick Junior Hockey offers a variety of programs for players of all ages and skill levels. The learn-to-skate and learn-to-play programs provide a great foundation for new players to develop their skills, while the numerous house and travel teams provide more experienced players with additional opportunities to grow and compete. Frank Crawley's vision to boost interest in ice hockey in Warwick has been realized over the last 60 years. The growth of the Warwick Junior Hockey program has provided countless young players with a great opportunity to play and learn the game, and to develop their skills. As the program continues to grow, it is a testament to the legacy of Frank Crawley and his commitment to developing the game in the local community.

Learn to Skate
The Learn to Skate Program is a program developed by Warwick Junior Hockey Association. In the past when 4-year-olds were allowed into the Instructional Program, in most cases, it was difficult. The main problem was that the attention span and endurance of the 4-year-olds would not afford them the ability to stay on the ice for an hour. In addition, their motor skills may not be developed to handle the accelerated skill-learning environment. The Learn to Skate Program was developed to acclimate younger players to the hockey environment and make them comfortable with this new experience. In addition, the smaller teaching group size will provide more individual instruction. The Learn to Skate Program is a transitional program into the Instructional Program.

Learn to Play
Our "Learn to Play Hockey" program focuses on building fundamental skills for beginners in a progressive "Station Format" which also emphasizes fun and incorporates actual game activity.
