About The Learning Garden

At TLG, we’ve found that Positive Discipline works best for helping children develop self-discipline and responsibility, and for guiding them toward a more peaceful classroom environment. Positive Discipline focuses on the belief that children need to learn how to manage their own behavior and solve their own problems. Mutual respect between teacher and student is essential, as is the ability to effectively communicate and problem-solve. Rather than using punishments or permissive methods, Positive Discipline employs discipline that teaches, encourages, and focuses on solutions. Encouragement is used to build self-esteem and empowerment, and to recognize effort and improvement rather than just success. TLG has found that this approach is far more effective than traditional methods in helping children develop self-discipline and responsibility. Positive Discipline encourages peaceful classrooms, and is a great way to help children learn how to manage their own behavior and solve their own problems. At TLG, we use this method to build mutual respect between teacher and student, and to foster effective communication and problem-solving skills. Early Infants

There is so much growth and development that takes place in the early months of each baby's life. At TLG, we are committed to going beyond meeting the basic needs of sleep, diaper changes, and naps to provide individualized care for each child. We work with families to develop and implement goals to nurture each baby's cognitive, social-emotional, and physical growth by creating age-appropriate learning opportunities while ensuring each infant feels safe and loved.

Older Infants

In the Older Infant program there is a strong focus on gaining independence and strengthening gross motor skills. There are lots of open shelves to encourage pulling up to a stand and cruising, play mats to build muscle control, more curriculums including story and music time, as well as circle time, learning centers and more time spent outdoors.

Toddler Prep

The emphasis in this classroom is on strengthening language and social-emotional skills. This includes a focus on both receptive and expressive language, appropriate conflict resolution, learning about themselves and others, and understanding and communicating emotions. To ease frustrations, sign language is taught for the words turn, mine, space, please, thank you, and help.

Pre-Kindergarten

Children engage in play as a means to develop skills in all domains of development. They are taught a Growth Mindset Curriculum as a part of every school day to encourage them to think positive, resilient thoughts so that they can face life’s challenges with confidence and be safe, kind, successful humans. Activities that teach letter recognition, letter sounds, writing, and reading are done daily during Word Work. We make every effort to ensure that each child who graduates from our program is very well prepared for Kindergarten.
