About Elementz

Elementz congratulates Hip Hop icons, DJ Kool Herc and Missy " Misdemeanor" Elliot, for their impact on the culture and the world, and being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Elementz is Cincinnati’s premier Hip Hop Cultural Art Center. Founded in 2002 as a direct response to the killing of Timothy Thomas, a young black man, and the social unrest in Over-the-Rhine that followed, Elementz was created to give voice to young people in the urban core and to disrupt the status quo, encouraging positive change in the community through civic engagement. Today, Elementz embraces and leverages the richness of Hip Hop Culture to continue to help the young people we serve be catalysts of change and to engage in creative futures. We work to intentionally Preserve, Protect and Advance Hip Hop as art, culture and a global economic and creative force, while helping our young people prepare for the creative workforce by providing academic and social-emotional support as well as exposures to generate opportunities for future success.

POETRY & CREATIVE WRITING

Elementz works with local high schools to coordinate the ECHO Youth Poetry SLAM competition as well as the, state-wide, Poetry Out Loud oral recitation competition. Look for updates on these competitions throughout the school year on our website.

STUDIO E.

Studio E is a hub for talented youth who have an interest in being producers of music and digital content. While in the program we teach youth how to produce a variety of content such as beats, songs, and podcast using state of the art equipment and software. Our current production software includes Pro Tools, Reason 10, FL Studio, Machine, and Final Cut Pro. We have 2 workstations and we the Rodecaster Pro for our podcast projects.

HIP HOP DANCE

Hip Hop Dance or Breaking, is an essential element of the culture and is a kind of expressive movement many describe as “postural semantics.” To learn this style of dance, like any other art form, requires a dedicated study of its origins and fundamental techniques, which will then lead to uniqueness and innovations that will make the art come to life.
