About Caedmon School Discovery Camp in New York, NY

The Caedmon School was established on four core principles of education: Community, Academic Excellence, Diversity, and Montessori. Our founding families created the school to provide a unique and safe learning environment for their children and the community. This mission remains true today, and we are proud of the school’s growth and success in the last few decades. We continue to offer children a platform to discover their individual interests and explore their passions. At Caedmon School, we believe in providing a rigorous academic program that is rooted in the discovery of knowledge. Our faculty is dedicated to helping students reach their full potential while also fostering a passion for learning. We want our students to leave the Caedmon School with a strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences, as well as a reverence for the pursuit of knowledge.

Beginners Program - Preschool for 2 Year-Olds

Unique facet of a Caedmon education is how we cherish the childhood years. One of the few early childhood programs in New York City to span and celebrate the length of childhood, our preschool program for two year-olds ensures a creative and collaborative approach to academic excellence.

Early Program: Preschool for 3 & 4 Year-Olds

Our Early Program classrooms are mixed-age classrooms that provide an authentic Montessori experience for children three and four years-old. As part of Caedmon’s preschool program, children of different ages are mixed together and remain in the same classroom for a full two-years. Three-year-old children benefit from having older classmates to model, and the following year they are empowered and cement their learning by assisting their younger classmates. This instills in the children a sense of responsibility for each other, as well as for themselves and the classroom.

Third and Fourth Grade

In Third and Fourth grade, Caedmon students think about what they are learning in critical and creative ways. Third and Fourth grade students use the library and the internet to do research, collaborate on long-term projects in social studies and writing, and participate in literary discussions and debates. The children are grouped by skill level for reading and mathematics. At other times, such as in social studies, math congresses, or writing workshops, the children meet as a whole group, which allows them to benefit from one another’s strengths and learning preferences. Technology skills are also integrated into many assignments.

Fifth Grade

Fifth grade at The Caedmon School consists of our oldest and "senior" students. They spend the year preparing for the academic and social challenges of middle school, while celebrating the culmination of their Caedmon experience. Academic instruction continues to be individualized and takes into account the learning styles, needs, and strengths of each child.
