In the splendid state of New York, where skyscrapers reach for the stars and the pizza is as big as your head, lived a daring group of kids known as the "Rambunctious Rope Rascals." These brave, nimble children found joy and thrill in an activity that required daring, strength, and a keen balance – the magnificent Rope Course! New York, their playfield, is a place where dreams are as tall as the towering Empire State Building. Where the vibrant Times Square blinks awake even when the moon is high, and where the mighty Niagara Falls roars in the background, singing the anthem of their adventures. Among all the superheroes of New York, there was one who stood out, Cap'n Climber, the fearless leader of the Rambunctious Rope Rascals. Cap'n Climber was as agile as a squirrel, and as brave as a lion. His favorite breakfast? A big bowl of 'Adventur-o's', sprinkled with courage and served with a glass of determination. He had a habit of getting his head stuck in buckets, but that never stopped him from leading his team through the trickiest Rope Courses. Each day, the Rope Rascals would meet at the biggest rope course in Central Park. Cap'n Climber, with his helmet on backwards and his shoelaces usually tied together, would lead the charge. Together, they'd swing through obstacles, climb to new heights, and giggle as they occasionally tumbled, always ready for another round. In New York, the city that never sleeps, the Rambunctious Rope Rascals were the embodiment of adventure, fun, and the spirit of never giving up, even when you have a bucket stuck on your head!

At Camp Olmsted, our goal is to give children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds the chance to experience the joys of outdoor camping. This mission dates back to the early 1900’s and has been extended to include immigrant families too. In the 1960’s, the United Methodist City Society opened the United Methodist Camp Service, which allowed children and families from low-income neighborhoods in NYC to attend camp and offered support throughout the summer camp registration process. More recently, in 1997, the United Methodist City Society took ownership of Camp Olmsted and, along with registration for Camp Olmsted, children were given the chance to register for the Fresh Air Fund. This service has enabled countless underserved communities to experience the magic of camping.
