About Wortendyke Studio

Set in an 1865 railroad station, the Wortendyke Pottery Studio has a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere. Professional potters teach students to expand and explore their own creativity in clay. All classes are taught on a one-to-one basis, covering all aspects of creating with clay – coil, slab and pinch methods of handbuilding, leading to the pottery wheel, focusing on both functional and decorative ceramics. Established in 1964 as Albert & Schlenz Studio-Gallery, Judy Losapio purchased the studio in 1989 and transformed it into a ceramic art studio and fine-American crafts gallery. Judy has been working in clay for 38 years. She studied ceramic art, design, and education at Alfred University. Clay is her passion and the studio reflect this enthusiasm. Wortendyke Studio is a place to come and relax, unwind, to forget about your busy life, and explore your creativity. Our mission is to teach adults and children ceramic art by inspiring their individual artistic talents, and to develop those talents to their fullest.

Programs

The classes, camps and experiences this business offers.

Children’s Pottery Party
A two hour party. We are flexible on the times, weekends or after school. The first part of the party is up to you, cake, pizza, or catered by the Hot Dog Caboose. As much or as little as you want to provide. The second part of the party is in our hands. Creating a project from a ball or slab of clay. Making projects like pinch pot animals, vases, mugs, votives, bowls, pencil holders, or wall pockets… The children are given a demonstration by the instructor then begin working on their project. Each party will work on the same project. Because of the individual creativity of the child each project will be different. Projects need to be dried, fired, glazed by the instructor, fired again so they will not be ready to take home for about three weeks.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or Brownies
An hour and a half lesson covering everything needed to earn a ceramics badge. The children will learn the process of working with clay, techniques and firing. They will each complete a project in clay.
