About Art Sparks

At Art Sparks, children will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic media. Through acrylics, collage, watercolors, pastels, crayons, printmaking, sculpture, photography, colored pencils, and clay, children can learn the language of art making. With a no-pressure approach, they will become familiar with the materials, tools, techniques, and styles of art. As they progress, they will also develop an appreciation for the artists and artistic movements that have made a lasting impact on the world of art. The Art Sparks classes provide children with the opportunity to learn while still embracing mistakes as part of the learning process. This relaxed environment encourages children to take risks and discover new ways to express themselves. Through this process, they will learn to reflect on their own art-making and find joy in the creative process. Children enrolled in Art Sparks classes will be exposed to a wealth of artistic knowledge and materials that will help them to develop their creative skills and gain a better understanding of the art-making process. With a no-pressure environment, they will be able to explore the different media, techniques, and styles, while also having the freedom to embrace mistakes as a part of the learning process. Ultimately, they will find joy in the art they create.

Botanical Drawing & Painting Ages 9 - 12 yrs

This 4-part illustration and watercolor class will be inspired by all things botanical: whimsical blossoms, vibrant fruit, leafy trees, sinewy vines will all inspire our art from root to petal.

Art Hand-in-Hand: Wednesdays Ages 2 - 5 yrs

Designed for child and caregiver to enjoy together, Art Hand in Hand offers toddlers and preschoolers an introduction to the world of art through an array of child-friendly, yet real artist’s materials. The morning of art includes guided art projects as well as time to wander and explore the various art stations in the studio. Instructor: Julie Rosenthale

A Term of Art Ages 6 - 9 yrs

Students will create a series of layered, mixed media pieces, as they explore a variety of media such as acrylics, collage, watercolors, pastels, printmaking, sculpture, colored pencils, and much more. They will acquire the language of art making, developing a true “artist’s” vocabulary as, during class, they become familiar with the materials, tools, techniques, styles, artists, and artistic movements of the world of art.
