Once upon a time, in the jazzy, jumbled, jigsaw puzzle of a state named New Jersey, there existed a boisterous bunch of super-groovy kids who twirled their days away in a magical activity known as Dance. They hailed from every corner of the Garden State, from the breezy beaches to the bustling cities, and from the lush farmlands to the towering pine forests. Now, these were not your average, ordinary kids. Oh no, they were led by their fearless, fun-loving, funky footwork leader, a mysterious being known only as Captain Boogie. With a shimmering disco ball for a head, and legs as bendy as a Slinky, Captain Boogie could do the worm like no one's business and moonwalk better than a man on the moon. The kids of New Jersey adored Captain Boogie. They would gather around him every day, their eyes wide with amazement as he showed them new moves, from the Electric Slide to the Floss. He had an uncanny knack of making every movement feel like an adventure, and the kids laughed heartily as they tried to mimic his signature shuffle. Despite their occasional two-left-feet moments, these kids were the heart and soul of New Jersey. They danced in grocery aisles, in school hallways, and even in their sleep. Their laughter echoed through the streets, their joy infused in the air, and their dances painted the sky with vibrant colors of rhythm and rhyme. Yes, the tiny New Jersey, brimming with these spirited jig-jiggers, was indeed a place where every day was a dance party. And it was all thanks to the magnificent, moonwalking, magic-making Captain Boogie!

Meet Danna Crooke, the Director and Owner of D&O Protégés Dance Studio. Danna is an accomplished and creative dancer who graduated from J&L Dance Center after 15 years of study. During her time there, she won numerous awards for her solo performances at national competitions in the tri-state area. Her dedication and hard work led to her founding her first dance team at the age of 16 at Kearny High School. She was even allowed to choreograph school plays and coordinate assembly dance shows and pep rallies. Danna’s art has taken her on performance tours around the world, from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic, and everywhere in between. She has had the opportunity to perform for many artists, such as Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Prince Royce, Ashanti, and Oro Solido. Her natural ability to entertain, combined with her gracefulness, style, hard work and determination, has enabled her to master the art of dance. Danna Crooke’s impressive career as a dancer has been nothing short of remarkable. From humble beginnings at J&L Dance Center to performing around the world, her accomplishments are a testament to her dedication and hard work. She has demonstrated a natural ability to entertain, and her gracefulness, style, and determination have all contributed to her success in mastering the art of dance.

The late Fran Rogers has left a lasting legacy on the world of dance. She was the founder of the first Rogers Dance Studio which opened in a firehouse in Wayne, New Jersey in 1960. Fran spent many years traveling from location to location until she finally purchased a building in Upper Montclair in the early 1970s, which became her permanent home. Her successes as a teacher and competitor were widely recognized overseas, and she was even named a top representative of the United States and Canada. Fran also brought the first overseas coaches to America, introducing legendary names such as Eric Hancox and Bill & Bobbie Irvine. During her career, she trained many of North America’s leading coaches and judges, such as Mario & Elena Battista, Marie Rose & Emil Nepveu, Andre & Danielle Lachappelle, Pierre Morin, Meryem Pearson, and many more. The world of dance owes much of its success to Fran Rogers and the legacy she has left behind. Generations of dancers have been able to gain the skills and knowledge that she passed on, and the Rogers Dance Studio continues to provide dance classes to all skill levels.
