About Portsmouth School of Ballet

At our dance program, we emphasize proper placement and technique to help build strong foundations for our dancers. We understand that each dancer is unique, and strive to nurture their individual talent and creativity in a caring and professional manner. Our instructors are dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment, where every student, from beginner to pre-professional, can explore and enjoy the art of dance and its many rewards. We believe in providing our dancers with the resources to reach their personal best. We use the best methods and instruction available, inspiring our students to strive for excellence while building self-confidence and respect. We also provide performance opportunities and selections competitions, so our dancers can test their skills and gain valuable experience.

Pre-Ballet I
A ballet class for children ages 2.5 – 4 years old. Focusing on musical awareness, development of locomotor skills, and basic ballet positions of the feet. There is focus on port de bra (use of arms) and development of spacial awareness in a fun and exciting environment.

Pre Ballet II
For children 4-5.5 years old. A continuation of Pre-Ballet I adding balances and locomotor skills with a focus of working on weight change and movement on one leg. Students are able to register for Ballet only or Combination classes.

Hip-Hop
Students will learn the latest funky dance moves and dance to the latest in hip-hop, rap, and techno music. Some breakdancing is introduced in this style. This is a fun class for everyone who wants to become a better dancer! No experience is required to take Hip Hop!
