About Beaumont Cottage Studio - Miriam Hughes

Miriam has a passion for bringing creativity alive in others, and she works to do that every day. She does this through teaching, sharing, and selling her work. Miriam's background in medical illustration is the source of her creative energy, and she works with pastels, watercolors, and fibers to create her art. Her enthusiasm for sketching is so strong that she finds it more enjoyable than even the most relaxing activities like eating ice cream, sleeping, or doing real work. Miriam is an artist with a contagious good humor who will lead you on your journey to unlock the power of creative energy. She has a long-standing history of medical illustration, but has since extended her talents to the use of pastels, watercolors, and fibers. Her dedication to her craft is unparalleled, as she finds sketching even more enjoyable than activities like eating ice cream, sleeping, or doing real work. Watercolor and Collage – A Match Made in Heaven,

In this workshop, we will learn how to revive, recreate and even start new watercolors, by adding collage elements to our paintings. We will also discuss how to recover from mistakes, either fixing them or incorporating them into your work. For beginners create watercolor sketches and learn how to go further with collages!

Painting Little Treasures - Miniature Quartets in Gouache, water

This workshop explores the value of creating a series of small paintings which tells a story (the seasons, blossoming of a flower, etc.) or be abstract with a continuous link between each piece. Let your imagination unfold as we create petit quartets. Series work can lead to fascinating subject explorations! The class fee includes watercolor paints, brushes, paper, and other supplies but please feel free to bring other similar supplies that you would like to try out. More frames can be purchased in class or ordered online.

Favorite Pet - an Exploration in Mediums

Working from photographs of your pet(s), you will create four distinct and varied pieces of art. One will be a drawing, then watercolor, collage, and the final created in a medium of your choice - a combination of the three you have already learned. Our subject matter (your dog, cat, mouse, or bird) will be created in a similar size for each piece so that you can display them together. Allowing ourselves to work in several mediums using the same subject matter is an excellent way to push ourselves out of boundaries in art you may have set up for yourself.
