About Durham Parks and Recreation Outdoor Recreation

Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) is dedicated to helping Durham community members stay healthy and active. By offering a wide range of recreational activities for all ages, DPR is helping people of all backgrounds stay connected to the outdoors and become lifelong learners. Through these activities, we aim to promote physical, emotional, and social health for all. The City of Durham’s Strategic Plan is the guiding force behind DPR’s mission to help residents discover, explore, and enjoy life. We strive to provide creative and challenging recreational activities for the whole community so that everyone can benefit from the health benefits of being active. From outdoor sports to educational classes, Durham Parks and Recreation is giving the community an array of activities to Play More. We believe that by connecting with wellness, the outdoors, and lifelong learning, we are creating a healthier community for all.

Aqua Babies (6 to 18 Months)
The purpose of this American Red Cross program is to teach safe behaviors around the water and develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on and around water.

DPR’s School Age Care Programs offer a mix of recreation, arts, learning and cultural activities for youth ages 5-12. Program offerings vary by location.
