Once upon a time, in the grand old state of Michigan, a bunch of adventurous youngsters, affectionately known as the "Mitten Mites," were busy scaling gigantic rock walls, as if they were tiny human spiders. Oh, you might be imagining spiders with backpacks and tiny helmets, but these were no ordinary spiders, my friend! These were daring boys and girls all across Michigan, with an unquenchable thirst for adventure and rock climbing. This enchanting state known as Michigan, affectionately nicknamed the ‘Mitten State’ for its mitten-like shape, was an ideal playground for our little heroes. Michigan was known for more than just its shape, it was also famous for its tranquil lakes, mighty forests, and grandiose rock formations. It was these rocks that the Mitten Mites loved to climb, with the Great Lakes as their audience, and the wind cheering them on their upward journey. Among the Mitten Mites, there was one kid who stood out. His name was Rambunctious Rocky. Now Rocky, he wasn’t your average Joe. He was as nimble as a mountain goat, with a dash of goofiness that could make a weeping willow giggle. He was known for his funny faces and clumsy but successful ascents. His motto was, “If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right!” Rocky would stick out his tongue and wiggle his eyebrows while climbing, making everyone laugh. His infectious laughter and zest for rock climbing inspired all the Mitten Mites. Even on the coldest Michigan days, you could find the Mitten Mites, led by their funny friend Rocky, climbing those majestic rocks, their laughter echoing across the lakes, spreading the joy of rock climbing, one goofy ascent at a time. So, all the kids out there, put on your mittens, wear those funky helmets, and let's join Rambunctious Rocky and the Mitten Mites for a hilarious rock-climbing adventure. But remember, if you're not making funny faces, you're not doing it right!

Nestled in 178 acres of lush woodland is a serene escape from the city, a place fondly known as Camp Swamp. This overnight Christian camp, located just two hours east of bustling Atlanta, has been serving as a peaceful retreat since 1992. We like to think of it as our own "little slice of heaven," offering a respite from the daily hustle and bustle, and inviting people to reconnect with nature and their spirituality. Our primary offering is a week-long summer camp, but we've expanded over the years to include more than just summer fun. As part of our mission to support families and churches, we now also host three family camps throughout the year, as well as four parent/child retreats. These events offer a chance for families to bond, parents to connect with their children, and individuals to grow in their faith. Moreover, our facilities are not exclusive to our organized events. Camp Swamp also offers rentals to schools, churches, universities, sports teams, and even business groups. Whether you're planning a camp, a retreat, or a team-building excursion, our serene setting and well-equipped facilities provide the ideal backdrop for an unforgettable experience.

At YMCA Storer Camps, we understand the unique challenges faced by children dealing with the difficulties of cancer. That is why we offer Camp Catch-A-Rainbow (CCAR) for free. This camp is specifically designed for children between the ages of four and seventeen who are fighting or have fought cancer. At CCAR, kids can enjoy a variety of activities including swimming, archery, and horseback riding. They can also challenge themselves with high adventure ropes courses and explore their creative side through arts and crafts. We also offer canoeing as an activity at no cost to campers. At YMCA Storer Camps, we believe in the power of play to help children with cancer. Thanks to the generosity of donors and grants, Camp Catch-A-Rainbow is free for all campers. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for kids to simply have a good time and build lifelong memories.
