About The Summer Camp

At Summer Camp, we understand the importance of providing a safe and supportive place for girls from low-income and foster homes. Our campers come from inner-city and rural areas and are aged 7 to 18. We give them the opportunity to take part in educational, challenging and fun activities, as well as to learn from positive role models. Our campers are also given the chance to build their skills for life in a place where everyone is celebrated for their diversity. We are a nonprofit and rely on the generosity of donors to provide full camperships each summer. Summer Camp is more than just a place to have fun! We are focused on creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere where all of our campers can thrive and learn. We strive to provide a safe and inclusive space that stands against discrimination and empowers our campers to grow and explore. We would not be able to do this without the support of our donors who help us give each girl the chance to attend our summer camp.

General Camp

Ages 6-12 General Camp is a 10-day fun and welcoming introduction to camp life, activities, adventures, and skills. For most girls, this is their first opportunity to spend time away from home and join a community of peers who, while from different places, share many common life experiences. Counselors guide girls with unconditional acceptance and understanding, as each experiment, explore and builds self-confidence.

Hiking And Canoeing

Returning Campers ages 12-13 Our 13-day Hiking and Canoeing program expands upon skills and personal growth from General Camp, by encouraging girls to trust their peers and practicing teamwork as they explore by foot and boat. This program focuses on social, athletic, and outdoor skills as campers explore Maine's hiking trails and canoe on the Saco River. As girls complete these adventures, they feel the strength of their physical accomplishments and the support of trusting bonds of friendship, that often last lifetime.

Leadership Training

Returning campers ages 13-14 Leadership Training is a 10-day session deepening campers' skills, knowledge, and self-awareness through advanced activities and workshops designed to help girls make mature decisions regarding issues that affect their lives. Workshops include healthy nutrition, safe and effective communication, drug awareness and prevention, American Red Cross Babysitting, healthy family planning choices, nonviolent conflict resolution, job application, interviews, and professional behavior. Leadership campers also explore higher education opportunities through college visits and continuing education discussions.
