About Rewild Maine

At Southern Maine ReWilders, we believe that land stewardship is a basic human right and that education, collaboration and understanding are essential to a healthy relationship with the Earth. Our goal is to provide resources and support to the people of southern Maine who are interested in deepening their connection to the land. We offer classes, workshops and experiential learning opportunities that promote land stewardship, environmental education and community collaboration. Our members are students, teachers, children, parents, environmentalists, naturalists, creators, artists and activists, all of whom share the belief that land is supportive and work together to learn more about rewilding. Together, we are committed to fostering a deeper understanding of the land and our relationship with it.

PPS Seeding/Sapling Skills Series Ages 4-6

Children's curiosity reaches up and out naturally, like seedlings searching for the sunlight. When adults are able to meet them where they're at, we can help cultivate the passion for learning and growth that is inherent in every person. We gravitate towards building, creating, exploring and making decisions that affect our world because we, as humans, have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years of living in direct relationship with the land. These skills are embedded in our collective memory; that's why so many kids love playing outside.

Tennis and Rewilding Series at Waynflete

(Ages 7-12) Learning happens best when young people are encouraged to follow their own curiosity. We cultivate the sense of wonder inherent within us all, and allow each person's unique passions to affect the flow of education. We use a variety of small-scale, place-based living skills, activities, games and stories about natural history to teach kids what they need to know. ​

Darning and Mending Clothing

Hand-sewing, mending and darning clothing are ancient human hand skills. Humans have used animal skins, tendons, sinew, furs and hairs, and various plant fibers to make needles, threads and fabrics, which can be sewn into pants, shirts, hats, gloves, bags, pouches, and more. Patches can be made to be beautiful as well as functional. Needles and thread can be made from naturally-harvested organic material; sewing comprehension with industrial supplies remains invaluable in the modern world.
