About Wellesley Nursery School in the Hills

It all began with Mrs. Eleanor Schulz, a founding member of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, who established Wellesley Nursery School in the Hills back in 1968. Mrs. Schulz served as the school's director until 1984, when Ginny Smith Alterio was appointed to the position and held it for a remarkable 28 years. Today, WNSH is proud to be a part of the Wellesley Hills community, serving families for over 50 years. We have even had the honor of having several of our students whose parents attended our school themselves. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment for all children, and we strive to make this a reality every day.

Preschool 1
Our classroom offers a safe and nurturing environment where children learn to navigate their social relationships. As they play in a child-centered environment, they build self-esteem, develop relationships and adapt to daily routines. Preschool 1 is an important building block in your child’s educational journey.

Preschool 2
We believe that children are active learners, collaborating with peers and teachers as they explore ideas in our play based program. Preschool 2 focuses on building a community of friends to foster positive social relationships and cooperative group work.

Pre-Kindergarten
Our pre-kindergarten program provides multiple opportunities for children to play and learn. Learning centers allow children to freely use materials related to a theme, interest or skill. Pre-academic concepts in literacy, math and science are woven into the daily curriculum.
