Green Room

Age Range: 2 years, 3 months to 3 years, 3 months; the ages vary a bit from year to year in order to create a balanced classroom The Green Room is designed to guide the youngest children's learning in a safe, nurturing environment. Teachers support growing independence and help children develop self-confidence by providing opportunities for classroom jobs such as putting away materials, setting up snack and pouring milk. They guide children in developing the social skills needed to identify their own feelings, share, take turns, enter in play with other children and to resolve conflicts peacefully. Additionally, the children’s ability to communicate is enhanced by developing active listening and expressive language skills. Children also enjoy free play with blocks and in dramatic play, allowing their creativity and imagination to flourish. Teachers facilitate opportunities for children to engage in reading, listening and speaking using singing, poems and finger plays.

Blue Room

Age Range: 3 years, 4 months through 5 years old Our focus is to give children the opportunity to learn through play in a loving, caring environment. Children develop social and language skills as they learn about their own feelings and those of their friends, sharing, taking turns and resolving conflicts peacefully. Days are filled with busy exploration, investigation and discoveries. Children express themselves through art, music and movement. They develop math and number skills using age-appropriate materials to organize, sort, count, build and sequence. In the Blue Room children explore science as they learn about weather, cooking, nature and seasonal activities. They develop motor skills and coordination while running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing and catching at the park. Children use their growing literacy skills during shared readings, reading groups and journal writing. A print-rich environment helps to foster a love of reading and provides the children with opportunities to practice literacy skills in real-life situations. Teachers guide children’s experiences through books, stories, games, projects and songs based on curriculum themes in both whole group and small group settings.
