About Mass Motion Dance

At Mass Motion Dance we are proud to have two studios, each located in the beautiful Massachusetts communities of Sturbridge and Medfield. Our Sturbridge location opened in 1983 under the direction of Terri Gordon, a former member of the Boston Ballet Company and Tanz Forum, the modern dance company of Cologne, Germany. In 2003, our Boston studio opened under the direction of Irada Djelassi and in 2017, MMD Metro West opened its doors in Medfield, MA under the direction and ownership of Irada Djelassi and Alexis Stansky Murphy. At Mass Motion Dance we are passionate about the development of each student’s technique to its highest level. We strive to create an environment that is supportive, challenging, and empowering. Our teachers are dedicated to inspiring students to reach their fullest potential and to become the best version of themselves. We create a warm and nurturing atmosphere that allows students to develop self-discipline, self-expression, and self-confidence. The combination of our experienced and talented staff, and our passion for dance will ensure that each student has a positive and inspiring experience.

Preschool Ages 2.5 – 4
Our Tiny Tots I class introduces young movers to basic coordination exercises, stretching and flexibility development and music appreciation. Faculty and their assistants introduce basic ballet principles, musicality and discipline skills in a variety of fun and exploratory ways. Memory skills and team work concepts are developed in an enjoyable community building way as we share with them all the pleasures of dance.

Young Children Ages 5-8
Combination Programs are designed to introduce and develop formal dance training in a fun and dynamic way. Level classes consist of 30 minutes each of Ballet, Jazz and Tap techniques. All students are required to take ballet. Combination classes ensure a well-rounded preparatory dance education.

Teen Program ages 12+ (Beginner-Advanced) 
Our Teen Ballet I class is an intermediate level class dedicated to imparting the art of classical ballet. We begin with stretches specific to strengthening the feet and ankles. The class progresses from the ballet barre to incorporate center work, as well as ballet progressions that include turning and grande allegro.
