About Northampton Community Music Center

In only a few years, this non-profit organization has become a cornerstone of the cultural landscape of Western Massachusetts, employing more than fifty professional faculty members and providing music lessons and classes to over eight hundred students every year. The Northampton Community Music Center is dedicated to bringing music to people in the Western Massachusetts area, and has done so with great success. From its beginnings, NCMC has grown to employ more than fifty professional faculty members and provide music instruction to over 800 students annually. The center is a testament to the power of music and its ability to bring people together.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are offered on a weekly basis throughout the 34-week academic year, as well as during the summer. New students may enroll at any time during the academic year, pending faculty availability, and tuition will be prorated for the number of weeks remaining. During the summer, students may enroll for whatever number of lessons they would like, in accordance with a teacher's availability. The Suzuki Program

The Suzuki method, offered at NCMC on violin, viola, cello, and guitar, allows a child to begin study at a very early age because the initial learning takes place through listening rather than reading. Parent education and participation are essential to the progress of the child and require a serious commitment of time and energy. Both parent and child attend a weekly private lesson, practice and listen together daily at home, attend regular group playing classes, and participate in public performances and special events. The Suzuki Program is a community within a community at NCMC, and participation is key to making the most of your experience.

The Beverly Pickering Music & Alzheimer's Project

The Beverly Pickering Music & Alzheimer’s Project aims to foster connections between nursing home residents and the local community through live music and interactive musical experiences. In 2006, Music & Alzheimer’s Project began under the guidance of the late Beverly Pickering. With the help of NCMC’s Executive Director Jason Trotta and countless volunteers, the project came to life, bringing weekly music performances to nursing homes and rehabilitation centers around the Valley. Initially funded by the F.A.O. Schwarz Family Foundation, the program has been able to continue at Linda Manor in Leeds and CareOne at Northampton with the ongoing support of the local community.
