About Needham Montessori

The goal is to nurture the joy of learning in each child. Needham Montessori School is proud to continue the rich tradition of providing an unparalleled early childhood education experience. As a full member school of the American Montessori Society, we are dedicated to upholding the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori and the guidelines of The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Our curriculum covers Everyday Living, Sensorial, Language, Math, Geography, Science and Art. We recognize that parents and caregivers play an essential role in the development of the whole child, and we strive to partner with them to foster a joy of learning in each student. We believe that our approach to early childhood education sets a higher standard and provides children from 15 months to 6 years with a unique learning opportunity.

Infant

Our Infant Curriculum is made up of 4 components Close, caring relationship with a primary caregiver Predictable routines and environments Home/school connections Hands-on exploration and play in a safe, opportunity filled environment

Toddler

During this developmental stage, children work towards independence; establish fine and gross motor skills; learn to speak while forming language skills; feed themselves at snack and lunch; choose activities from the shelves; potty-train; work alongside peers and reach many other first milestones. Children strengthen their core and legs while practice balancing as they walk up and down the stair structure. Toddlers love listening to stories: turning the pages and pointing to familiar objects, especially animals.

Preschool (2.9 – 6 years)

Our Children’s House classrooms promote a peaceful learning environment for children to succeed. With calm music, engaging materials and grace & courtesy: children work on the task in front of them. Whether it’s scooping and pouring coffee beans; polishing a shoe; watering plants; building the Pink Tower; making words; tracing the countries of Europe or counting into the hundreds with the Thousand Chain: children develop order, concentration, coordination, independence and critical thinking skills.
