At Immanuel Lutheran Nursery School, we offer a variety of early childhood education programs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Our curriculum emphasizes Christian values and the development of a child’s full potential. We also provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment designed to foster the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth of each child.
Immanuel Lutheran Nursery School is a nonprofit, Christian-based early childhood education ministry of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden, Massachusetts. We are dedicated to serving our church and community by providing quality, full-time Christian education and childcare for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers at an affordable cost.
Our programs are designed to provide children with a safe and supportive space to foster the growth of their minds, bodies, and spirits. All children are treated and taught to respect others, no matter their nationality, gender, ethnicity, race, or religious background.

Infants
The infant room operates on a very flexible timetable which is geared to each infant’s own schedule and needs. Infants nap and eat according to their own routine, and activities are provided accordingly. Infants spend a portion of each day in activities geared to their development levels, including floor time, one-on-one interaction with their caregivers, time to experience creative materials, sensory integration activities, stories, music and songs, and both indoor and outdoor large motor activities. Each day includes outdoor play and/or walks (as weather permits), as well as morning and afternoon snacks and lunchtime. Diapering occurs throughout the day as needed.
Toddlers
We love kids and youth! Most of the time our world teaches young people that they need to be more adult-like, but Jesus taught us that what adults really need is to be more child-like. Children are humble, curious, joyful, and trusting. At Immanuel we don't believe that “children are the future of the church” - we believe that children are members of our community now and that they already have gifts and skills and passions that can glorify God and build up others.
Preschool
Each week during the 9:00 am service, children from age 2 to grade 5 are invited to join us for Children’s Word. After a special time together upfront with a pastor, our young people head down near the gym, where they play, hear that week’s story from the Bible, and pray together. This gives children a chance to worship in age-appropriate ways, while also providing parents a much-needed break, and the opportunity to be present and attentive during worship. All our children return to worship in the sanctuary in time for families to receive communion together.
GOD SQUAD
Our youth in grades 8-12 gather twice a month to serve others and grow in faith together (we also eat food, because duh). In the past few years, our youth have traveled to Houston for a National Youth Gathering and to North Carolina for a week of hurricane recovery work. Right now God Squad is meeting on Saturday mornings at 11:00 am, and we keep in touch through text and email. Our group is a place where everyone is welcome and wanted just as they are, and where we can talk about what’s going on in our world and in our lives.
