In 1967, Pathways for Children was founded in Cape Ann to provide preschool classrooms for Head Start programs. Since then, Pathways has been dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of our community. Our mission is to nurture children and support families facing economic hardship and social inequity. Through education, enrichment, empowerment and motivation, we strive to cultivate a brighter future for our youth and their families. Pathways for Children is committed to the well-being of our communities. Our comprehensive services help to bridge the gap between children and their families, improving the lives of our most vulnerable citizens. We provide educational programs, enrichment activities, and support services that foster positive development and growth. With more than five decades of service, Pathways for Children still remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting our community. We continually strive to provide the highest quality of care and resources to ensure success for our children and families.

Early Head Start Program Ages birth–3

Through our Early Head Start program, students ages six weeks to three years can prepare for a brighter world ahead. Small classes, coupled with a bright and comfortable environment allow children to explore and take an active role in their own social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. Our Gloucester center also includes an age-appropriate outdoor playground and indoor play space for our children to run and play. Each child is an important member of a specific and unique family. Our staff is uniquely trained to support the development of each child’s home language and culture during these critical, early years.

Head Start Program Ages 3-5

The nationally recognized Head Start program gives children ages 3-5 an extra boost heading into kindergarten. Our preschool program allows caregivers peace of mind knowing that their child is learning and growing in a safe and healthy environment. While their children are getting the support they need to enter kindergarten prepared academically, socially, and physically. Like all of our comprehensive, all-inclusive educational programming, Head Start offers meals, nutrition assessment, health and developmental screenings, referrals for special education services, family support, enrichment programs, and field trips.

School Age Care Ages 5–12

Our School Age Care program provides education (and fun!) after school and during school vacations (including summer). The year-round services and extended hours keep children safe and learning while giving working parents flexibility. Our School Age Care program offers recreational activities, summer field trips, and homework help with a strong focus on promoting children’s understanding and competence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
