About CAPIC Head Start Preschool Center

At Community Action Programs, Inter City, Inc. (CAPIC), we are dedicated to helping eliminate poverty in Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop. Our non-profit organization was founded in 1967 and is governed by a twenty one member Board of Directors made up of representatives from public, private, and low-income sectors of the community. We strive to stay up-to-date with the changing needs of the communities we serve. Our services include providing housing to the people of East Boston and other twenty-five communities regionally, as well as offering Weatherization services to eighteen local communities. We are passionate about helping people struggling economically and emotionally achieve self-sufficiency. At CAPIC, we are committed to making a difference in our communities. We strive to identify and eradicate the root causes of poverty so that everyone can have access to the resources they need to thrive.

Head Start
Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive child and family development program serving low income families with children between the ages of three to five (3-5) years old. Head Start has been operating a successful early childhood program since its inception in 1965. The program is composed of four major components:

Child Development Center
Our philosophy is to provide a program that meets the fundamental growth and developmental needs of children who are outside of their homes for a large part of the day. Enrollment in the program allows parents & guardians to maintain full-time employment, strengthens family support systems, and benefits the communities.

After School Program
The CAPIC After School Program offers a safe, nurturing and educationally appropriate environment for school aged children whose parents are working or attending school full time. CAPIC provides programming during the summer months when the public schools are not in session. The Program is a multicultural educational/ recreational program for urban youth between the ages of 5 and 12. The program primarily serves the communities of Chelsea and Revere.
