At Henry Buckner School, our goal is to help children become strong, healthy, and successful members of our community. We strive to create a nurturing, secure, and positive learning environment for every student, regardless of their individual differences in learning styles. We offer a cooperative effort between school, parents, and community to ensure that all students are given high expectations and age-appropriate instruction. We provide a variety of programs to cater to the needs and interests of our students, including infant and toddler care, pre-school, after-school programming, and an exciting summer enrichment program. INFANTS ( 3months - 18months )

The Infant/Toddler program uses the Creative Curriculum approach in the classroom. HBS provides age- appropriate toys and activities in a warm and nurturing environment for our children to freely explore. Parents are informed of their child’s progress in the preliminary areas of : - Physical & Social Development, - Fine motor , Sensory & Arts - Language, Emotional and Cognitive Development. - Basic Math and Science Exploration.

TODDLERS

Establish respect for the environment, the equipment, and materials. Provide a warm and accepting environment in which children can work and play. Promote and instill a sense of caring for and sensitivity to others. A foundation for respect is established. Instill a sense of curiosity. Provide experiences with open-ended questions and where process, not product, is emphasized. Provide a variety of active ways children can use their bodies to participate in fine and gross motor activities, both indoors and outdoors. Encourage participation in simple games and songs. Provide for the language development that is so important at this stage of development.

AFTERSCHOOL ( 5yrs - 13yrs old )

The afterschool program is designed to help children be intentional, productive, and well-balanced. Our teachers are qualified and supportive of our children’s education and success. The teachers encourage students to be themselves by expressing who they are as individuals through age-appropriate activities and work. Students are assisted with completing their homework during afterschool hours Healthy snacks are provided Children are able to work on projects and other school-related assignments. Parents are also welcome invited to join and complete assignments with the teachers and children.

PRESCHOOLERS ( 2.7yrs - 4.9yrs old )

The Preschool program uses the creative curriculum approach in the classroom HBS provides age-appropriate Parents are informed of their child’s progress in the preliminary areas of Physical & Social Development Fine Motor., Sensory & Arts Language, Emotional, and Cognitive Development Math, Science, and Technology. The HBS teachers record children’s growth and development through written developmental observations. Teachers meet with parents twice a year. Parents are invited and welcome to meet anytime with any concerns, suggestions, or questions. Preschoolers have access to using the computer for basic exploration and learning.
