Your introduction to digital photography. If you’re just starting your photography journey, this beginner’s workshop will help you take creative and technical control of your camera. In this workshop you will move past auto mode, learning to control your digital camera using aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. With fun, simple, and easy-to-understand instruction, you’ll walk away from the class understanding the capabilities of your camera and how to take better photos. Topics covered: - Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO - Introductory lens overview - A look at essential camera parts, buttons, and features - Different lighting environments and how to photograph them What to Bring: Camera with manual mode settings (DSLR, mirrorless, advanced point-and-shoots), fully charged battery, empty memory card, notepad and pen.

Take the skills from the classroom and start shooting in the real world. As one of the oldest municipalities in the United States, Boston and its neighborhoods offer an array of memorable photography opportunities. While practicing your outdoor photography, you’ll learn techniques for difficult lighting conditions, all while developing your compositional skills. You’ll meet your instructor in a public place and work side-by-side for the entire session to take better pictures in the field. Shooting in a variety of locations, students can ask in-depth questions on-site and pick up valuable tips from our professional photographers. Topics covered: - Improving your everyday photos with easy and helpful tips - Applied manual mode instruction: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO - Introduction and explanation of composition rules and techniques - How to scout and seek images like a pro. What to Bring: Camera with manual mode settings (DSLR, mirrorless, advanced point-and-shoots), fully charged battery, empty memory card, notepad and pen. For outdoor workshops, face masks and coverings are optional for vaccinated students. We ask that unvaccinated or partially vaccinated students practice community-minded measures by wearing a mask for the duration of the class.

Whether you are a food blogger needing to produce Instagram-worthy photos on a budget or an aspiring professional food photographer, this beginner workshop will equip you to shoot delectable photos using simple yet effective techniques. In this class, you will combine theory and practice with staged food prepared by our instructors and cover topics like composition, controlling and using available light, useful gear tips, and creating easy, at-home studio set-ups. Prerequisites: Digital Cameras I or equivalent. Topics covered: - Overview of used settings for indoor food photography. - Composition in relation to food photography. - Natural light, mood/tone, creating a mood with affordable light set-ups. - Logistics to consider when doing your own photoshoot.
