About Sheridan Shore Sailing School

Sheridan Shore Sailing School has been offering students the opportunity to learn the exhilarating sport of sailing for over 50 years. Our courses emphasize both sailing skill and the importance of seamanship, and are designed for individuals of all levels of experience, from beginners to more advanced sailors. Our instructors are certified by U.S. or Canadian Sailing Associations and our classes have a low student to instructor ratio, allowing for plenty of personalized attention. With a wide variety of courses available, everyone can find something that’s right for them.

Beginning Sailing
Beginning Sailing is for students who have never sailed or have little sailing experience. The class teaches boating safety, knots and boat parts. Students also learn beginning steering, points of sail, maneuvers, and how to get a boat to and from a dock or mooring.

Intermediate Sailing
Intermediate Sailing is for students who have the skills listed in basic sailing, but still lack experience to sail on their own. In this level students will learn more knots, boat parts, as well as develop confidence to steer a boat on their own. Additionally, basic rules of the road and basic seamanship are taught. Intermediate Sailing focuses on mastering independent, confident boat handling. By the end of Intermediate Sailing a student should be able to rig and sail a boat without instructor assistance.

Advanced Sailing
Advanced Sailing students begin learning sailing theory and basic racing Students are also introduced to spinnaker and trapeze use on 420’s. Advanced boat handling techniques and sail trim are taught and beginning racing rules and tactics are covered. By the end of Advanced Sailing a student should be ready for racing.
