YMCA Camp Indepdendence

Campers foster lasting friendships while playing sports, creating arts and crafts, singing around the campfire, paddling a boat, and more. As this may be the first chance for many campers to spend a night away from home, they are encouraged to become active participants in their own care as well as their continued development of independence. Campers are shown that even though they have a disability; they can be anything they want to be and are provided with an environment where they can be successful. Most importantly, the camp offers them a welcoming atmosphere where they can have fun! We have traditional camp program weeks for nearly every age!

For more than a century, the Y’s Day Camps have empowered Chicagoland’s youth to do mighty things — make friends, have life-shaping experiences, develop new skills, and, of course, have fun! At the YMCA of Metro Chicago, we believe in the power of play. At Y Day Camp, we play for fun and for progress. And we can’t wait to see how youth discover their favorite ways to play all summer long!
