About Christian Youth Theater - Chicago

At CYT Chicago, we provide students with an opportunity to explore the performing arts in a safe and nurturing environment. Our after-school program is designed to give children and teens the tools to be creative, think critically, and work collaboratively. Students will have the chance to develop their skills in voice, drama, and dance while building self-confidence and making lasting friendships. We also offer a variety of other creative experiences, including 18 mainstage productions and week-long camps each summer. Our instructors are carefully selected professionals who are committed to helping our students reach their full potential. We strive to ensure that our classes and shows reflect our mission statement, values, objectives, and goals, so that our students can have the best experience possible.

Acting: Intro to Voice Acting

Whose voice is that?! Have you ever wondered how the character voices were created for your favorite animated movies? How was the sound recorded for those pesky commercials? If you're curious in what happens behind the scenes of your favorite animated films, audiobooks, audio dramas, and commercials, then this class is for you. You will learn acting techniques for voice-overs, and you'll record some awesome material using your voice. Step up to the mic! It's your time to shine in the world of voice acting!

Dance: Beginning Musical Theater

This Beginning Musical Theater dance course is designed to promote creativity and appreciation for dance and to teach the fundamental steps associated with beginning jazz and tap dance to young students while also receiving an introduction to what it takes to perform a musical theater piece through dance.

Dance: Duets & Trios

This is a fast-paced class taught in the style of 'So You Think You Can Dance' where we will learn a dance a week. In this class, we will work on dancing with a partner. Partner work is an essential part of most dance styles. In several styles, it is an addition to the general dance vocabulary while in others it is the main component. Students will dance in duos or trios, working together using lifts, tricks, and leverage strung together with choreography. Styles may include (but are not limited to): modern, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and Broadway. The goal of this class is to have the students become comfortable dancing and relying on a partner no matter what style of dance they are in.
