Manatee Lagoon is the perfect place for families to learn about the threatened Florida manatees and the role that the FPL Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center plays in their migratory habits. During the colder months of November through March, visitors can observe the manatees as they gather in the warm-water outflows of the energy center. This natural gas plant was modernized by FPL to create an environment where these gentle giants could thrive and offer up an experience that the whole family can enjoy.
Manatee Lagoon offers summer camps the opportunity to reserve a visit that will offer their campers a fun and engaging introduction to “all things manatee” and the Lake Worth Lagoon ecosystem. Our 90-minute summer program will be tailored to various age levels and may include an exhibit gallery tour, observation deck viewing and marine science-focused activities. Although most manatees are up north during summer months, there is almost always something interesting to see in the waters that surround our center.

VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP - CAMPS
If you can’t bring your camp group to Manatee Lagoon in person, why not sign up for a live 30-minute virtual field trip! Join one of our center’s educators, we call them Manatee Masters, as they introduce your campers to the world of manatees and other local marine life. The session’s virtual experience, which is open to ages 5 to 13, will include a fun mini-lesson on manatees, followed by an overview of what can often be seen from the center’s observation deck. Then your campers will have the opportunity to get answers to their manatee-related questions from our Manatee Master.

SCHOOL GROUP VISITS
As a field trip destination, Manatee Lagoon welcomes school groups to help educate youth about manatees and the Lake Worth Lagoon.
Our 90-minute program options offer a look into the world of manatees and their local habitat. For selected programs, our educators (Manatee Masters), showcase manatee biology and ecology, share details about the lagoon’s estuarine habitat, and suggest how students can help protect their local environment. The Manatee Masters will also explain the important role that Florida Power & Light Company’s adjacent Riviera Beach Clean Energy Center plays in ensuring that manatees stay warm during the cooler winter months.
