About Visual Arts Center of Punta Gorda in Punta Gorda, FL
The Visual Arts Center of Sarasota has a long and vibrant history. Founded in 1979 by a group of dedicated volunteers, the Center was built in phases as money was raised by the community. The Guild received two matching capital grants from the State of Florida’s Division of Cultural Affairs in 1985 and 1987, and the ground-breaking ceremony occurred in February 1988. After a year of dedicated work, the doors officially opened in 1989.
In 2018, the Visual Arts Center partnered with the Patterson Foundation for its Margin & Mission Ignition Initiative. This partnership allowed for the construction of a new brick-and-mortar Art & Supply Store. This store helps to strengthen the Center’s entrepreneurial capacity and become sustainable for greater community impact. In addition to art for sale by Visual Arts Center member artists, the store also offers art supplies and class kits, VAC logo items, snacks, and rental storage lockers for students.
The Visual Arts Center of Sarasota has been a part of the local community for over 40 years. Since its founding, the Center has been dedicated to providing quality art programming for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Through the support of the community and its partnerships, the Center is continuing to expand its mission and reach.
