About Orlando Shakes

Founded in 1989 by UCF professor Stuart Omans, Orlando Shakes has grown into one of the area’s premier professional theaters. Under the direction of Artistic Director Jim Helsinger and Managing Director Douglas Love-Ramos, the theater has earned national acclaim from the Wall Street Journal’s Terry Teachout. He describes the company as “outstanding,” “spectacular,” and “Broadway worthy” and laments that it is not widely known outside Florida. In addition to its acclaimed performances, Orlando Shakes offers educational programs to the Central Florida community. Through workshops, lectures, and other immersive experiences, students of all ages have the opportunity to learn about the history of theater and gain a deeper appreciation for the art form. The theater’s educational programming is just another reason why Orlando Shakes is a leader in the region’s professional theater scene.

Saturday Classes

Orlando Shakes’ youth and teen classes focus on skill sets that benefit youth and teens on stage as well as in everyday life. Focusing on the proficiency needed to bring great work to life, our classes celebrate the process of learning, experimenting, taking risks, and challenging expectations.

Summer Camps

With options for students Grade K – 12, young performers will take center stage to perform their hearts out in thrilling performing arts camps from Orlando Shakes! While learning from theater professionals, young actors will tackle essential acting skills while exploring their craft through fun themes, including Magic Tree House, Pokémon, Shakespeare, and more!

School Field Trips

Experience the wonder of a live theatrical performance with your class! Expand your students’ imaginations as we bring stories and characters to life on stage. School-day performances are available for elementary, middle, and high school groups as well as homeschool groups, clubs, and the general public. These plays are chosen with an eye to the needs of the school curriculum and the needs of young people and families in our community.
