It was clear a new and larger facility was needed.
Thanks to the collaborative effort of community members and local governments, the dream of a major performing arts center in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County became a reality in 1991. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts was opened with a grand performance of The Phantom of the Opera. This iconic facility has served as a cultural cornerstone in the community ever since, playing host to world-renowned musicians, singers, dancers, actors, and other performers from all over the world.

SUMMER THEATER CAMP
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and The Performance Project School of the Arts, welcome you to Summer Theater Camp 2022! Take part in two sessions June 13th – August 19th. Camps are available at Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale, Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in Aventura and the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center at Nova Southeastern University in Davie.
See old friends and make news ones, be taught by professional performing arts teachers, and have fun putting on an amazing show on the Amaturo stage. The camp offers students the chance to study singing, dancing and acting while rehearsing for a theatrical production culminating in a final performance on stage at the Broward Center. As part of enrollment, each camper will receive a Summer Theatre Camp 2022 t-Shirt and cast photo.

Your child’s favorite fairytale character or superhero comes to life through creative play in this introductory drama class. Students imagine, explore, and create their own stories and adventures each week based on a different book focusing on a fairy tale or superhero. Students learn about story structure while increasing their vocabulary, confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Young performers learn to use their body, voice, and imagination to save the world and create a happily ever after!

SENSORY INCLUSIVE PROGRAMS
This class teaches theater skills to people with physical and intellectual disabilities in a supportive and nurturing environment. By utilizing theater techniques, students enhance verbal skills, improve movement, build self-confidence, and advance socialization while stimulating free and independent thinking. Students choose the characters and write the script for the performance that takes place in the JM Family Studio Theater at the end of the session. Offered in partnership with the Exceptional Theater Company.
