About Art Center Manatee

Since 1937, ArtCenter Manatee has been the premier center for art, art education and unique gifts in Manatee County. Located in downtown Bradenton at the intersection of arts and culture, the nearly 10,000 sq. ft. building features three galleries with exhibits that change monthly, five classrooms that hold over 3,000 students every year, a LiveArtFully gift shop, and an art library featuring over 3,000 art volumes. ArtCenter Manatee has repeatedly been voted the best art gallery by the Herald Tribune and Bradenton Herald. At ArtCenter Manatee, we offer a variety of art classes and workshops for adults year round in painting, drawing, pastels, pottery, jewelry design, photography and more. We also have After School Programs that give students 4-15 the opportunity to express their creativity while they learn valuable skills, have fun and make new friends in over 35 classes designed just for them. Our community-focused initiatives include partnering with the School District of Manatee County for an annual exhibit, Just for Girls, Pace Center for Girls, Lighthouse of Manasota and the Boy Scouts to teach art classes to their students at our facility.

Drawing For Kids

This is a class for the young artist. The class is focusing of all aspects of art. We will train the eye how to see as it relates to direction of line, curves, form, shape, contrast, etc. We will learn how to look at something and draw it exactly. All projects will be finished in pencil, color pencil, or watercolor. Once the basics are learned, we will focus on design and composition. Students are to bring pictures they want to draw. All art supplies for this class are provided.

Ceramic Workshop

This is class-led, hands-on, and open to anyone who can center and pull a cylinder. Each week one of the participants will present a demonstration, challenge, or problem to work on. This can be based on an area of your expertise, something that interests you in clay, or a new technique to try together. You can present a problem to work on, such as lids, feet, handles, height. The focus can be on soft work, leather hard, or bisque. Sandra Symens will kick off the first class. There’s a lot of expertise and experience between us so let’s share. Class includes 25# of clay with a bisque and glaze firing.
