ELM EDUCATION PROGRAMS

We believe in the power of Shakespeare’s stories and language in the lives of New Haven’s youth, especially when told by the youth themselves. Elm Shakespeare Company offers a host of educational programs for all ages in the community and in schools. Come take a class, make a play, be inspired! Below are four of our Shakespeare programs for teens and young adults.

The Fun is Back

Jump into Shakespeare's magical world… campers spend 2 weeks immersed in a supportive and fun environment with classes in acting, stage combat, voice, movement, and theatrical design – all while rehearsing a 30-minute version of a Shakespeare play.

A Typical Day

For the first half-hour, from 9-9:30 am, the whole group meets together to do a warm-up. Then the group divides up into smaller groups for three Morning Classes. After lunch and a little free time, each group has a rehearsal for their final performance. The Morning Classes are Voice & Movement– which helps each actor to learn to use their voice and body to tell the story of their character; Discovering Shakespeare– which focused on exploring the words of Shakespeare, and how he used his language, and acting skills; and Production & Design– in which campers design and create their props, scenery, and costumes.
