About Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center
In 1979, a small group of passionate citizens banded together to found Oceanographic Teaching Stations, Inc. (OTS). Their mission was to educate the public on the wonders of the oceans, tidelands, and beaches of Southern California. After being granted the opportunity to turn a dilapidated building at the end of the Manhattan Beach pier into a marine science education center, OTS received generous help from local volunteers and financial assistance from TRW and Arco. The result was the Roundhouse Marine Studies, which opened its doors to Los Angeles County students in 1982.
By the end of the 1980s, the Roundhouse Aquarium was receiving 110 classes each year, a testament to the hard work of the original founders and the local community. Their passion for marine science and environmental education had created a thriving center for learning and exploration.
Since its inception in 1979, OTS has seen the Roundhouse Aquarium grow into a beloved Southern California landmark. With the help of local volunteers, generous donors, and the determination of its original founders, the Roundhouse Aquarium continues to be a beacon of education and exploration.

SUMMER CAMP
Discover the joy of summer camps at the beach as we engage in ocean themed games, activities and crafts while also putting safety first. Enjoy a worry free summer at our fun and safe beach camp! Please note that each week has a Group A for ages 4-5 and a Group B for ages 6-7. Campers MUST remain in the same group for the full week, so please select your group carefully and plan ahead so friends are in the same group! Group C is for ages 8-10 and will be offered weeks 3-6. We have many new procedures and protocols this year, so even if you are a veteran camper/parent, please be sure to read all the registration information very carefully.
ON SITE CLASSES
At the Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center, education is one way we like to connect students to the ocean. We offer a wide variety of onsite learning programs catering to all grade levels. Our programs are flexible and customizable so if there is a particular habitat, animal or topic that you are interested in, please let us know and we will be able to accommodate your request. All our onsite programs offer hands-on learning and are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
OFF-SITE PROGRAMS
One of the greatest aspects of education is that it can take place anywhere. With our Roundhouse Aquarium Outreach Van for Education (ROVE), we can bring the aquarium to your classroom, fairs, festivals, public and corporate events! ROVE offers opportunities for hands-on learning stations on marine science and conservation.
