For over a century, the LA County Library has been providing services to the community. Established in 1912, the Library has grown into one of the major libraries of the nation, serving over 3.4 million residents in unincorporated areas and 49 of the 88 incorporated cities within Los Angeles County. Boasting a book collection of 7.5 million volumes, the library also offers magazines, newspapers, government publications, specialized materials, and access to online databases. All of this is made possible by the County Free Library Act and the County Board of Supervisors. Since February 1, 2016 the Library has been under the leadership of Director Skye Patrick. Patrick brings experience from her previous posts as Broward County Library’s Director, Queens Public Library in New York, and San Francisco Public Library. With Patrick at the helm, the Library continues to bring its services to the community over a span of 3,000 square miles. LA County Library is committed to providing quality library service to its community. Its mission is to ensure the Library’s resources are accessible and available to all residents regardless of background or circumstance. With the help of its Director, the Library is well-equipped to handle its mission and continue to serve the Los Angeles County community.
